A tourist visa allows you to stay in Ukraine for 90 days and explore the country and all it has to offer. Staying beyond the allowed 90 days is not possible without a residence permit. So, a Ukraine residence permit allows you to stay in Ukraine for a longer period than only 90 days. During that time you can study, work, or engage in other activities in the country. But how do you know whether you need a residence permit? Without the exceptions all foreign citizens need a residence permit to stay in Ukraine for more than 90 days.

A Temporary Residence Permit is granted to foreign nationals if they have special reasons to stay in Ukraine. When you receive a residence permit on certain grounds, you cannot engage in activities that are not permitted for your residence permit. For example, if you receive a temporary residence permit for study, you can only study, not work.

Once you have received the permit and fulfilled all requirements, you can apply for a temporary residence permit. The period for which you will be granted a temporary residence permit is determined by your work permit. If your employment contract is concluded for only 1 year, your permit will also be valid for 1 year. ATTENTION: Ukraine protects its labor market and obliges employers to pay large minimum salaries to foreign citizens 1900 USD (the average salary in Ukraine is - 400 USD), taxes from such salaries are also high, which makes employment of foreigners very disadvantageous for the companies themselves. However, if foreigner has private business, minimum salary restrictions do not apply to it.
